The day of the Lord.

Throughout Thessalonians Paul makes reference to the second coming of Christ. With all these refereces it would be nice to know exactly when Jesus is coming back. However, scripture fails to give us that information. What we do know is that "the day of Lord will come like a thief in the night." We as Christians put such a large emphasis on trying to figure out all the signs and wonders that lead to the second coming, but we really need to be putting our emphasis other places. As Christians we know that there are false teachings and sayings that refute the words of God. We need to make sure we align ourselves with God's word so we can be a light to others around us. The Thessalonians were encouraged to resist tempation. As we struggle to live in a culture that is so counter to the words and deeds of what it means to be a follower of Christ, we need to make sure we resist tempation.

Cultural Background Issues

Thessalonica was a prominent seaport city. It was also the capital of the Roman province on Macedonia. During Paul's day there were roughly 200,000 people who lived in Thessalonica. The city had a large Jewish population and many of the Gentiles were involved with Greek Paganism. There was also a large population of God-fearers in the synagogues that Paul was able to persuade. .

What is eschatology?

This word is usually used in theological circles. Many non-Christianized people have no idea what the word means. To put it simply, it means the study that deals with the last events of human time. It usually includes this life as well as what is beyond this life and the age to come. So in other words, Pauline eschatology is Paul's insights on the final events of this life.

Purpose

This blogspot is my attempt to fulfill a requirement for my New Testament course at Warner Pacific College. Part of the class requirement was to come up with a "creative" project that would help others understand and appreciate the Biblical passage or topic being emphasized. Having minimal creative abilities I decided to create a website using some basic skills I learned from another class earlier in the year. Therefore, this is my official first attempt at creating a webpage. Please be understanding. :)
